STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Mariners Harbor resident Clara Saviñon, director of administration at Staten Island Legal Services, is being honored by the Staten Island NFP Association.
The Staten Island NFP Association will be hosting the fourth annual Community Service Awards on Nov. 16 to honor those who tirelessly serve their communities.
Ms. Saviñon has been with Staten Island Legal Services since they started operations 10 years ago. She handles finances, prepares grant budgets and helps report on grants. She also keeps track of grant requirements, oversees building maintenance and supervises support staff.
And Ms. Saviñon also does work within the company that sometimes goes unnoticed. She is the go-to person if the air conditioning breaks, she drops off packages on her way home and she opens the gate to the parking lot. She even drives around Staten Island tracking down clients who can't be reached by mail and phone.
Ms. Saviñon is also dedicated to her family. "My hobbies include reading, seeing movies and, of course, spending time with my family. I have two great kids -- Matthew, who is 11 years old, and my princess Clarissa, who is 15," she said.
Ms. Saviñon is one of several people being honored by the Staten Island NFP Association for outstanding work. The honorees are people who are not publicly recognized for their work -- instead they perform their duties tirelessly behind the scenes.
In the coming days, a profile of each honoree will be posted on SILive.com.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Grand Oaks Country Club, Huguenot. The public is welcome to attend; tickets are $55 per person. To purchase tickets, phone 718-355-6228.
